About Our Place
For more than 20 years, I lived a life I loved in Europe. I was intermittently unattached. Valuing my independence, I often spent copious amounts of time socializing with my female friends and their friends. There was always something to do and someone to do it with…. weeknight dinners, Sunday brunches, shopping trips to nearby cities, antique hunting and crafts fairs in far flung towns and villages, concerts, art galleries, museums, wine-tastings, local and long-distance travel. You name it we did it. We travelled. We cooked and attended concerts and shows together. When we were too tired to get together or the weather was bad, we chatted by phone while sharing an early morning cup of coffee or a late-night glass of wine. Because our group was relatively large, there was always
a like-minded woman ready and willing to do things with.
When I moved back to the States, to be with my grown daughter and her college-age daughters, I missed my European network of friends and their friends. Here in Westchester, many of my female friends from years ago still had family responsibilities – often expanded to now include aging parents. Others, in couples, were joyfully rekindling their romance - now that their kids were no longer living at home. So, left with time on my hands, I joined clubs and volunteered my time with arts and culture groups. The more I got out and about, the more I realized that there were other women like me… ready and willing to do things, but no one to do things with. So, the idea for Our Place in Westchester came into being.
Our Place is a virtual community where like-minded, empty-nester women (ages 50+), like you and me, can come together to meet, chat, exchange ideas and do interesting, fun things – in-person or online. We set the agenda, plan and organize activities based on our interests, wants and desires. We organize things to meet our needs… in large groups, or just in twos or threes. We can make close friends or just be ‘running buddies’ – acquaintances to do things with. This community can be whatever WE want it to be. The name says it all. It is ‘OUR PLACE’.
